Michael Sutherland

Policy Analyst

Michael is a policy researcher who is passionate about fighting for a more livable, equitable, and compassionate city. Michael got his start in politics working on a local State Senate campaign focused on making our streets safer. He went on to coordinate the digital communications strategy for a number of nonprofits and local, state, and Congressional level campaigns. After graduating from the Macaulay Honors College at Lehman College, Michael worked as a Research & Policy Associate at Housing Rights Initiative. There, he coordinated research on housing and homelessness policy, investigated source of income discrimination, and combatted real estate fraud.

Michael recently graduated from Baruch College with an MPA concentrated in Urban Development and Sustainability. As part of his ongoing studies, he is drafting a research paper alongside Baruch faculty investigating Black homeownership in mid-century Brooklyn.
