Institution Mapper

FROM THE WHITEBOARDS

The Institutions Mapper helps any public process where you need to document nearby organizations.

In your web browser, pick a starting point or draw a boundary, and get back an attractive map of local institutions, and a list view too. The Institutions Mapper pulls in locally-available open data, and produces maps you can print, save or embed.

Use this to guide public outreach, to follow up with each group to get comments, or to demonstrate the need for local change.

For example, if you’re advocating for a traffic calming zone, mapping all school and college buildings nearby is essential. If you’re reviewing liquor permits, you have to know addresses of residential properties nearby, and other licensed locations.

(We’re sharing ideas for future tools, starting with needs we recorded after meeting with community groups who work on street safety issues in NYC.)
