For public transit, the number of passenger miles served by agencies with open data has skyrocketed since 2007

Since mid-2007, agencies have been able to use the GTFS format to share route and schedule data. The GTFS-Data-Warehouse has documented the release date of each agency’s data, shown here scaled according to the passgenger-miles servedĀ  in 2010 when transit providers served 53.6B passenger-miles nationally.
